Biographical / Historical
The Women's Sports Association provided an opportunity for female college students to participate in sports and physical education. The organization began in 1927 as the Woman's Athletic Association. In the late 1930s the name changed to the Women's Sports Association, and in 1940 it became known as the Women's Recreational Association. The motto of the organization was "Spirit, Loyalty, and Sportsmanship." Over the years the association offered activities such as volleyball, badminton, tennis, basketball, field hockey, folk dancing, archery, and golf. Like many student clubs, the Association hosted banquets, dances, and other events.
