This collection contains a disc of digitized campaign speeches from the 1948 Congressional and Senate elections in Texas. It includes speeches from Roland Boyd (for Sam Rayburn), G.C. Morris, David H. Brown, Frank Davis (for Sam Rayburn), G.C. Harris (for Sam Rayburn), and Coke Stevenson. The speeches date from July 16-28, 1948.

Also included in this collection is a transcription of an oral history interview with Roland Boyd conducted by Michael L. Gillette and Dave McNeely on June 4, 1985, in McKinney, Texas. The transcription is 22 typeset pages and contains personal stories regarding Boyd's relationship with Lyndon B. Johnson and Sam Rayburn.

Biographical/Historical Note

Roland Weldon Boyd was born in Collin County, Texas, on September 10, 1908. He served as district attorney for the county beginning in 1938. He was the Collin County campaign manager for both Sam Rayburn and Lyndon B. Johnson and became well acquainted with both men throughout the course of his career. Roland Boyd died on December 2, 1990.
