Biographical / Historical
Catherine Neal was born on January 5, 1901 in Nashville, Tennessee. She earned a B.S. from Vanderbilt University in 1929 and an M.A. from Peabody College in 1932. She also studied at the Art Students League of New York and Penland Craft School.
Neal was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Kappa Delta Pi, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She taught in the Nashville public school system and at Western Carolina Teachers College before joining the faculty at East Texas State.
Neal was hired as a faculty member by East Texas State Teachers College in 1936. She retired from East Texas State University in June 1966 with the rank of Assistant Professor.
